Happy Birthday Brian!

It is Brian's birthday today!  He is getting soooo big!  :)  Yesterday morning I let Aleah and Colleen help me wrap his present.  A half hour later, Colleen was talking with him on the phone and said, "We wrap your wallet for birthday."  Thanks kid.  That surprise was ruined and tonight we are going to Emily's Battle of the Books competition (quiz competition about 25 book the team has read this year) and wouldn't have time to really celebrate.  So...the surprise party was born.

The kids had a half day, so when Emily and her friend M. came over I put them to work cleaning.  They helped so much!  I didn't know I could get so much work out of kids with the promise of getting to put up streamers.

They did a good job of it too.  Then everyone made cards.  They were so funny.  Lots of unicorns - what guy doesn't like unicorns?

When it was almost time for Brian to come home, Aleah was posted in the front room to keep watch.  She spotted Brian and we all hid in the kitchen and waited for him to come in.  And waited.  And waited....  He was sitting in the car listening to the last of a radio program!  When he came in everyone shouted, "Surprise!  The kids were sooo excited.

M.'s family came over for dinner (taco salad and angel food cake).  Candles were blown out.  Cake was eaten.  Wallet was opened and a surprise planter of cacti presented.  A surprise-one-day-early party.

Happy Birthday Brian!

Your "thanks kid" line made me laugh!

The streamers looked like so much fun, too.

Oh, and the Battle of the Books sounds cool. Can I be on the team??? I would have LOVED doing that when I was in school.

Emily's team was awesome. You could tell they had really read all 25 novels. They won the competition.

Ha ha - we did that for Marriner one year...we didn't have a good reason, we just wanted to do something totally surprising. And he was surprised...

Congrats to Emily! She's awesome!

Happy birthday, Brian! I still remember coming to your house in Bryan for your birthday, and both Allen and I were disappointed that you had a lemon cake, only we didn't say so. Now you know. What flavor was it this year?

I need to remember the streamers idea to motivate my kids to clean.

And I laughed and laughed at "he is getting so big."

We miss you guys.
