Block 21 - Year of Scrappy Triangles and Giveaway Winner

Last week I was at a quilt retreat and someone brought in a tub of scraps to share with everyone. I grabbed some (because I need more scraps?) and made these blocks. Pink, tan, flowers, dots, and horseshoes? Perfect!

Most of the time I use different scraps for my blocks, but this time they are pretty much the same. I'll just have to spread them out a bit in the final quilt.

Block 20 - Year of Scrappy Triangles Giveaway

Hi! Can you believe we are on week 20 of a Year of Scrappy Triangles?
In this cute block, strips surround a square that would be perfect for fussy cutting. This is a fairly straightforward block, but remember to add fabric in the order listed on the pattern (I almost didn't!) or else it won't work.

Block 19 - Year of Scrappy Triangles

Hello! Here is the paper piecing pattern for Block 19 of a Year of Scrappy Triangles. This scrappy half square triangle focuses on using up all the narrow strips that haunt the bottom of scrap baskets. Well, at least mine. I could have made 20 of these blocks, no problem.

This block also has a great secondary design. The great thing about paper piecing is that you can get those narrow strips to match up every single time. Brilliant!

You will be able to post a picture of your 20 Scrappy Triangle blocks and everyone who links a picture of all 20 blocks will be entered to win this cute fat quarter fabric bundle. If you have fallen a bit behind - or want to start! - now is the time to catch up. It sounds a bit overwhelming, and if they were 'real' quilt blocks, it would be a lot of work, but these blocks really do go together quickly. You could start now and have them done in two weeks without too much trouble. Grab a friend, grab your scraps, and get sewing!

PS - New to foundation paper piecing? Totally intimidated and can't wrap your mind around it? Been there! But it wasn't that bad once I gave it a go. To get you on your way, I wrote the 'Ultimate Guide to Foundation Paper Piecing'. Clear, step-by-step instructions. You can totally do it and Scrappy Triangles are a great place to start. They are simple, fast, and a great way to practice paper piecing.

Block 18 - Year of Scrappy Triangles

 This foundation paper pieced scrappy triangle is super fast, especially if you have a couple of 5" charms leftover from other projects. Just cut them in half and you are good to go! I made myself stop at six blocks, but I really wanted to keep going and use up all of the 5" squares in my scrap basket.

It was especially fun to use the cute charms I had been saving for something 'special'. Now my Japanese dog print and aqua Tula Pink charms have been made into something I can enjoy.

The secondary pattern made by four of the blocks is also really fun. So many options! I can't wait to see what you make. You can post pictures on Instagram and see what others are making with the #yearofscrappytriagles.

I plan to have a linkup and giveaway here on the blog when we hit Block 20. I'll have some cute fabric for a lucky person who has completed all 20 blocks! So don't put them off!
