How Brian Looks when we try to plan stuff.
Dates: We are available in June and August. July and the first part of August are heavy pollinating times for Brian. It seems to me that June wasn't a go for someone and that Marc's girls started school the second week of August so that the weekend of Aug. 8th was the best chance of us all being able to come. Please comment on when the best dates for you are.
Place: I know Marc was thinking Mexico would be fun but Boise would require the fewest number of people to travel. Comment with alternate ideas or if travel is a problem.
Lodging: It would be almost impossible for us all to stay at Brenda's place. We could split between Brenda's, Grandma Shirley's and Rich's (like how I volunteered you guys?) or go "camping." Let's assume for a moment we have agreed to camp. This raises other questions:
Tents or cabins? Tents are cheaper but require more equipment and planning. Cabins are more expensive but have hot water, kitchens and beds. (Can you tell which way I am leaning?) Running water and flush toilets are a must for me whether camping or cabining. Yes, wimpy but I'm ok with that.
Where to camp or cabin? Give me your input. I think someplace with swimming would be nice. Perhaps with canoe rentals but am not picky. Also within 2 hours of Boise would be nice. I don't want to spend all day traveling to Boise only to have to drive six more hours to our camping spot.
So, all of Brian's family please let us know the who, what, when, where and why of what you would like to do for a family reunion.

Dates are open for us as long as we know in advance. We can make Aug. 8 happen (Rich & Colleen mega b-day bash?) Are we talking Fri-Sun? Fri-Mon? Thurs-Sun?
I agree that we need to be within a couple hours of Boise. We are okay with cabins or tenting. Or camping in Brenda/Rich's backyard. We can even get a hotel, since we're not paying to travel.
I did a quick search of cabins in the state parks. Three Island Crossing had 8 cabins at $45 per night (5 people per cabin, I think it was). Ponderosa has 4 cabins (6 people each)at $140ish per night, but they seemed super nice. Bruneau only has cabins for up to 10 people, although additional tents may be an option.
While I'm totally fine with camping and won't throw a fit if that's the decision, I'm leaning toward a "stay in Boise" reunion. Float the river, BBQ at Albertson park, let he kids run wild in the fountain and playground. Ultimate frisbee, card games, hike around in the foothills, green-belt, participate in a neighborhood service/clean-up something-or-other, eat every last one of Brenda's delicious garden veggies, swim at Ivy Wild park, more playground romping...
To me, that sounds like the most divine weekend.
There you have it... my two cents.
I think Bear Lake is your best bet . . . and it's only forty-five minutes from your FAVORITE Idahoans.
Dates are as follows we are leaving here on July 26 and will be there till the Aug 10.
Marc found this CABIN 2 hours form Boise avaible form Friday July 30 - Sunday Aug 1.
We are up for anything!!
We are binging our camping gear.
But as a sided note if we were out of Boise I would not be as easiely called away by my family..
If it there is a question of camping gear Marc as some friends that can help out possibly?
Hear is the link for the cabin. If this is somthing you all like we would have to move quickley.
The name of the cabin is Elk Point Lodge Cabin

Heidi, have you already bought tickets? Is June not an option for you?
Leila
Checked on Heidi's link and it has been reserved from the 4th to the 7th. (coming to Idaho as early as the 7th is cutting it close for us - the 30th would not work at all :( If we did the 8th to 10th (two nights) it would be $1,270 with all charges. Expensive but it does have enough room for each family/couple to have their own room.
I think Charlotte's stay in Boise idea sounds good but I am concerned about coordinating events and interests. Maybe the hard core campers could go camping/rafting/climing/etc before we get there and we can just to some local Boise fun stuff during the time Marc and Brian overlap. If we stay in Boise there is the lodging issue but I think we can sort that out.
Keep posting ideas and specific links if you find somewhere you think would be good to stay.
Problem for us is swim team for the girls goes till the last sunday in July. That leaves us until the 2cd of september when school starts.
I am supposed to be at Girls camp July 26-30. Or at least some of those days- I know I can't go the whole time.
Are Anna and Mike coming? How many ways would we be splitting the Elk Point cabin?
If we stay in Boise, Mike and Heidi also have family in town and therefore additional lodging options beyond Brenda and Rich. I don't think it would be a problem at all to sort that out.
I will be in SD with Eliana the first part of June but that is flexible. Being in Boise is best for me because I'm teaching summer school and options will be limited a bit for me.
Also we wouldn't mind having people stay with us but we really don't have space aside from maybe one or two older kids so we're not super helpful on that end of it.
Somehow Anna's comment didn't get published but she suggested that we go to Zion's for the reunion.
How about Mexico for next Christmas?
Zion's is okay for us. My sister lives not far from there and is having a baby the week of Aug. 8, so I'd actually love to be in the area.
Bryana- when will you know your summer class schedule?
Was the Christmas in Mexico suggestion instead of a summer reunion? What part of Mexico?
Leila Says (I hate it when I am in Brian's account)
Ok, so I was totally joking about Mexico for Christmas, but how about it? Everyone has some time for Christmas off (we wouldn't have to stress about whether or not pollenating would be done by Aug.) and it would be sweet to be somewhere warm for a week in Dec.
Part of me says if we put it off for a year we won't do it, but if we commit NOW and make reservations at some cabins on the beach NOW then it will happen.
What do you think? Has anyone found something we could rent/reserve for Aug. 7-10th?
I'm just putting these here so I can find them later if I need to.

But what about Bear Lake???
It's sad that my word verification for this post is "apart."
*Sniff* so true.
Class dates: June 7 thru the the fist week of August. I'm planning on being in South Dakota the last week of May. And next Christmas we're promised to be in Phoenix with my sister.
Looks like Aug. 6-10 is our best bet for everyone. Of all the suggestions, my first choice is still Boise, second choice Zions, and 3rd choice Elk Point Logde.
What are everone else's top picks?
Ok Mexico has bin a thought for Marcs for awhile. As for Zion were woukd we stay in Cabon, Tens or Hotel? And I stell like Boise. We need to come to some tipe of time frame soon. Marc's time off calender at work is filling up Fast for the year. So if you are needing other dated thay are Spring Break is March 29- April 5 2010 Summer avalbelty July 26 -September 6 2010
Thanksgiving Break Nov 24-28
Christmas break DEC 23 2010- Jan 2 2011
These dates are not confermed with Marc's work calender so thay may change.
I hope this helps.
How about the second week of August? It eases the pressure for me a little since I don't have to miss much of pollinating.
Otherwise Christmas is great for me in 2010.
Becca, we will definitely have to make it to Sugar City to see you guys if we are there.
my word verification word is psycho. I don't know if that is an omen or a judgement call on blogger's part.
I don't know what I was thinking. August just doesn't work. Brian needs to be here to pollenate until the 15th and school starts the 18th. It is possible that we could come the weekend of the 13th but that is cutting it close and would be expensive for 3 days in Idaho. I would rather come up for a full week or two. Christmas would be perfect for us, but I know it doesn't work for everyone. Maybe we will visit Marc in DC in June for a few days and then come to Idaho and visit everyone else.
