My Designer Bassinet

For all of my other kids I have borrowed a bassinet to put in our room while they are still waking up a ton during the night. I have never wanted to buy something we will only use for about 3 months. Especially at this point where this might be our last I don't want to go out and buy something and the crib is too big for our room. Plus Colleen is still sleeping in it. I was going to transition her out of it but she has had a HARD time going to bed since we moved here.

So, with no one to borrow from and a horror of buying something, I made my own. BTW, I don't want to hear any comments about how it is not safe. I will not keep her in it if I think there is any chance of her rolling, wiggling or pulling herself out etc.

Step One: Find a storage container
for the base and the top.

It works best if the bottom storage container is filled
with things like out of season/pre-maternity clothing.
You want it to be stable.

Step Two: Tape the top unit to the lid.
This way you can still access your clothes
(hopefully they will still fit you...)

Step Three: Tape your children's mouths shut.
Somehow it didn't make them any quieter.

Step Four: Tape fabric around
the bottom of the base.

You can tape little pleats into it to make it a little ruffly. Don't skimp on the tape.

Step Five: Put another piece of fabric
over the top.

Add a folded blanket for extra padding and you are done!

So cute!

Our babies have slept on a changing table pad on the floor. My cousin's baby slept in a suitcase and then a laundry basket. I don't think there's anything wrong with your solution. Way to "make it do or do without."

But doesn't it need just a little bit more of a mattress in the top basket?

I was impressed with the ruffly skirt. Now I want to ruffle all of my rubbermaid containers.

I did make a little mattress out of 4 layers of batting sewed up in a piece of fabric. I just didn't put that in the "steps."

Your siblings got a blanket folded up in the bottom of the laundry basket. My parents put me in a dresser drawer. Looks like this little one gets the "deluxe" treatment. And I thought only the boys believed that duct tape is the handyman's secret weapon. Way to go!
